Week 11 Part A: Marketing with Twitter, Tik Tok, Google for Business, LinkedIn, and more.

Back in 2016 when I was getting out of the military, people kept telling me to create a LinkedIn account because it would help me in the job market. At the time I didn't really understand it and even though I did create an account, I never used it. As I got older and talked to friends who graduated college and had good jobs, I would ask them how they landed the jobs they had. They all would almost immediately tell me it was because LinkedIn and the connections they were able to make on the platform. This makes sense because I also just found out that LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network on the internet.

I just downloaded the app on my phone and have begun to work on my profile. I still got about two years until I graduate from college but when I do I want to be ready and have plenty of options when it comes to landing a great job that I will not only enjoy but also make a decent living. That is important because California is crazy expensive. I used the profile I created back in 2016 but I updated with all the skills I have gained throughout the years because I have worked a lot of different jobs after I got out of the military.

There are plenty of ways to get access to LinkedIn, the easy one for me is on my phone through the app. But you can also access it through your desktop or android phone. Like I said earlier I updated my profile because a complete LinkedIn profile can help showcase all your skills, experiences, and education. Another cool feature on LinkedIn is that you can organize offline events, join groups, write articles, and display pictures. You might not think a picture is important but having a good picture on your LinkedIn profile can make you more appealing to employers. I remember when I was getting out of the military a private organization came to on base event and gave us free suits so we use them for interviews and profile pictures for our LinkedIn profile pictures. That is the only thing I have left to complete my profile, a good picture of me in a suit.

I definitely recommend LinkedIn to anyone who wants to land a great job in the career field they have chosen. I just got back on LinkedIn so I can't speak from personal experience but I have plenty of friends who got great jobs from LinkedIn. I have one friend who always wanted to study cancer as a career, now thanks to LinkedIn he works at a cancer research facility in Chicago. I have another friend who got a high paying manager position job working for the stockyards in San Francisco and Seattle thanks to LinkedIn. I also have another friend who works in the gym industry, he is the vice president of sales for the company, he was able to land that job because he was working for a different gym company but was able to connect with the one he works for now because of LinkedIn.

LinkedIn has so many benefits when it comes to finding the right career or getting connected to the right person who can help you land your dream job. To be honest I am not a big fan of social media to begin with, but LinkedIn is completely different because it is more professional than Twitter or Facebook. I want to do something in the news world, that is why I want to be a journalist. My dream job would be to work in the sports world as a journalist whether it is writing an article or interviewing athletes after they are done playing. I know the best shot I have to landing the job I want is through LinkedIn, that is why I think anyone who is serious about their career should have a profile, even if you think you don't need one, it doesn't hurt to just create one. And the best thing about it is that it's free to create an account. Last thing I would love to connect with all my classmates on LinkedIn so add me if you want guys!

  1. I agree 100% with you about using LinkedIn in the professional aspect. My current job, I found was on LinkedIn. I've been with my company for over a year now and I enjoy it. Although it is not my dream job, but it's a skill to add on my resume once I finish school. Thanks for sharing!
